The kilogram is also known as kilogramme (in UK) and is defined as being equal to the mass of the International Prototype of the Kilogram. The kilogram is equal to 1000 grams and was originally defined in 1795 as the mass of one cubic decimeter (or 1 liter) of water at 4°C. The kilogram is approximately equal to 2.20462262 international (avoirdupois) pounds. The prototype kilogram was manufactured in year 1799 and has a mass equal to the mass of 1.000025 liters of water at 4°C. The international
